Recently, a trunk of items from Ms. Asher's voyage to America (1952) was recovered from her house of many years in Brooklyn, NY. Together with snippets of poems and diary entries, Ms. Asher has begun to assemble long lost ephemera as well as enduring reminiscences. Her father, Michael Dray-Khmara, died in a Kolyma Labor camp in 1939, where there exists a monument to his memory. He was born in Kiev, educated in Moscow, and belonged to a small but very influential group of neo-classical writers in the Ukraine. He was first arrested in February 1933.
